As well as inviting you to participate on the Community Council, the Council also invites you to consider making a financial contribution. Any financial contribution you make will be used to support and expand the projects, activities and events that we sponsor each year.

Mission Statement
S t. Dominic’s School Community Council strives to serve and support a faith-filled Catholic educational environment that welcomes the active participation of students, parents, school, church, and community. Working with the community we hope to foster the development of excellence in our students through life-long learning. Through the utilization of each other’s strengths and in an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect, co-operation, and collaboration the Community Council works to support unending student success.
“Why Should I Join the Community Council?”
• To have a voice in school curriculum, school, and board policies.
• Provides a vehicle to express opinions and suggestions about St. Dominic’s future.
• Stay informed about what is being offered at the school.
• Work with others who share similar goals of making the high school experience both an informative and fun for all students.
• Studies show that students do better in schools where there is high parent involvement.

• Set an example for high school students about the benefits and rewards of volunteering.
History of St. Dominic School Community Council

ver the past few years, the
School Community Council has
been a supportive presence for
students of St. Dominic in a variety of ways.

• In 2003, the Council was able to contribute to a fantastic Prom night through funding the D.J. and decorations including a 17ft. Eiffel Tower monument.
• In 2002, NET (National Evangelical Team) was sponsored through the Council to celebrate our annual ThinkFast at the school.
• Community Council has assisted with the chaperoning of school dances.
• Each year a bursary is presented by the Council to a deserving graduate of St. Dominic.
• The Council hosts the annual Graduation reception.
• Over the past years, the Council has held Penny Table fundraisers during Parent-Teacher Interview nights.
• Financial assistance was provided to develop the “Celebrating Success” postcards.
In the future, the School Community Council hopes to remain actively involved with students by supporting their various activities and fundraisers.
Plans for the 2005-2006 School Year
• The Community Council holds meeting approximately 6 times a year.
• As well as the Community Council, meeting are attended by the Principal and Vice-Principal along with a teaching staff representative and Student Council representative creating a balanced environment to discuss school offerings.
• During Parent-Teacher Interview nights, the Community Council will serve dinner to parents and students through the evening.
• Community Council plays an important role in assisting with Graduation, including the provision of an annual bursary.
Criteria for Bursary: The School Community Council Bursary is awarded to a grad who has shown outstanding dedication and perseverance in achieving their academic goals.
