Project Overview:
Students will research and read information about Pioneer
Life in Canada (using web sites appropriate for grade three
reading level) and link to other sites that outline specific
duties and jobs of the time.
Students will take on the role of a pioneer in order to
create a three page slide show in Kid Pix that will include
writing, drawing and voice recording on each page.
Please take a look at our class
pioneer pages!!! Click on a name and check out
all three slides, then use your back arrow to return to this
page!
Student Task:
Pretend that you are a pioneer who has come to settle in
Canada. Create three pages about your life as a pioneer
using The New Kid Pix. Be sure to include pictures and words
using the keyboard and recording your voice. Include the
following:
Page
one: tell about your journey from your "homeland" in Europe
to Canada. Was it difficult? What route did you take to find
land?
Page
two: include information to tell what it was like settling
in Canada, making a home, daily home life.
Page
three: tell about your role/job in your pioneer
community.
Create a Kid
Pix SlideShow to tell about your life as a pioneer.
Research:
Use the web site: The
Homesteaders - Settling in Canada
Read the information and develop your story for the first
page.
Additional information may be found using the following
search directories Yahooligans,
KidsClick!
or Yahoo Canada. Please
use the research form called Internet
Research Ready to help prepare for a search.
Presentation:
Create each of the pages on the New Kid Pix with careful
illustrations, detailed writing and record your voice to
tell about your life as a pioneer.
After making each of the pages, create a slide show (under
"Goodies" menu and "Switch to SlideShow")
Present your Pioneer SlideShow to your class!
